Who would have guessed? Not in my lifetime ...
lovedog100 replied to CheshireTom's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
California wow had an escalator to the second floor next to the stairs. I was the only person that I ever saw use the stairs. It always amazed me that people would use an escalator to go exercise. They also ripped me off on their "lifetime" membership. I had to pay 300 baht a year after the first year. They don't bill, or remind you as you walk in that your membership is about due. 30 days after it is due, they tell you that you can no longer use the gym unless you buy another "lifetime membership" There is NO negotiation, buy another membership, or go away. I'm not sad to see them go. The people out front harassing me as I walked by was a pain in the ass. I talked with one of the trainers one day at Starbucks. He said that he hadn't been paid in 3 months. He was Australian and his work permit was tied to Calif.wow so he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. His choice was demand to be paid, and be thrown out of the country, or work for free and hope that he would someday be paid. -

Buying Anabolic Steroids.
lovedog100 replied to steeldog's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
He is right. No drug is going to make your cock, bigger, or smaller. It is the size it is, and that is that. Steriods can cause testicular shrinkage though. I know a girl in Pattaya that likes to go with body builders. She says that most have small cocks. If you asked her, she would say that exercize make a cock small. What is more the truth is that most body builders are over compensating for something. For some, it may be a small cock. -
Jane says that it is cream. I'm thinking condensed milk.

WTF - Sandy Spring prices?
lovedog100 replied to jimmac's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I agree, for several reasons. I book a room for 3 days max. After I arrive, I have the choice of extending my stay, or finding another place I like better. Switching around is not a bad idea. You can find a place that you like better, that is more convenient, or just a better price. You have no idea if since the last time you were in your favorite place if they started noisy construction next door, or management has changed. Keep options open.Just like you can't make plans in Pattaya, don't lock yourself into a room. If it's not the high point of high season, there are always lots of rooms available. Many of those are not available on the internet. Someone in a bar or restaurant may tell you about them, or you may just see a sign as you are walking around town. Try someplace new, you may be glad that you did., -
what and were is drinking street?
lovedog100 replied to unziped's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Huh? I was never quoted a 1000 baht barfine, or anywhere close to it. I wasn't told short time either, longtime 1000-1500 Has something changed? -
I have had the same experience with both Tequila reef, and Mike's. I like the food at Mikes better. The next day or two in the toilet happens more than in just Mexican places. I think it has more to do with the cooks, and refridgeration than the food itself. Knowing some restaurant owners, they have a hard time getting across to Thai's that they can't leave food out all day, and then cook it and serve it to a customer. The same goes for frozen food, that they will refreeze if it goes unsold. Getting Thai's to wash their hands before cooking after they have been to the toilet, picking their nose, or squeezing zits is almost a lost cause.

He said Big Mac, you said Big Mac set. In the states right now, add $2.99 for the meal, or set. You also mentioned car insurance, but also health insurance. I got a years health insurance for less than one month of my COBRA insurance at home. Paying off the cops is a biggie. Pattaya 400 baht for driving with out a license, in my state its $500 and they will tow the car which will cost just as much to have released from impound. Running a red light 400 baht, in my state $235 Thai food is much cheaper. I took jane to a Thai dinner tonight, she ordered two dishes at $9.99 each plus $6 for rice. She has the same meal for under 100 baht in Pattaya. Clothing like T-shirts and cargo shorts are cheaper in Pattaya. Things for the house like dishes, pans, broom and such are much cheaper in Pattaya. A can of soda 1/2 of what I pay at home, yet it's more in a bar or some restraunts. In the states refills are free, so I count that. A hair cut is a deal in Pattaya, as is a massage. Most drugs are cheaper in Pattaya, and if you add in having to see a doctor to get some of them at home, that makes them even more of a deal. Speaking of a doctor, I can see a doctor and get a shot with some antibiotics for 30% less than just the doctors appointment at home, and I don't even need an appointment in Pattaya, just walk right in. Having yard work done, or a house cleaner is way cheaper in Pattaya. Having work done on the motorbile is just outright cheap compaired to $75 an hour plus parts at home. Seeing a movie is about 1/2 the home price. There is no place in America that I can find the same value as Soi 6, not even close.

That is what I would do. The police will say that you are required to have it with you. Most will settle for a copy, those that won't just want some money anyway. Cough up a couple of hundred baht, and be on your way.

I just went through the whole process of my sister trying to pay for my flight with a credit care. The whole thing is a long story that I won't tell. I ended up with three reservationc cancelled for what the airline said was the credit card company refusing the charge. Even though my sisters card had been charged twice for the tickets. More hassel than it was worth. I ended up going to BKK and paying cash at the airport. Another thing that will work is booking through a travel agent, the charge is through them, and then they pay the airline. Save yourself a lot of head ache, and either pay cash, or book through a trave agent.

Who to deal wtih for visa runs - for the new guy here.
lovedog100 replied to Wannabe's topic in Expat Issues
My experience is that the places you go, are nothing more than an ticketing agency. The vans are a separate Thai company. When your van arrives, you will find people that bought tickets all over Pattaya. Just like a travel agent that doesn't own the plane you fly on. It should be noted that who is cheapest today, doesn't mean they will be cheapest next month. How much time and effort is saving 100 - 300 baht worth? Is it worth visiting 3 agency's? Six? It's your holiday, that is for you to decide. The Cambodia runs for the 15 day visa are all about the same price everywhere. For the Lao runs for the 90 and 180 visa, there is room for different prices. You can get a visa run from any travel agent, however I would recommend a place that specializes in visa runs like the OP said. They want repeat business and referrals. It's a sideline for a travel agent. When I first got to Pattaya someone in my hotel highly recommended going to Koh Larn for the day, and recommended a travel agent to get a ticket. I checked several travel agents as I was walking around town, prices were 500 - 2500 baht. What a big surprise I got when a bar girl told me that I could go to Bali high pier and get a round trip ticket for 40 baht. (60 baht now) -
Naklua is mostly Russians and Germans. As Jacko said, Soi Buakhao area, add soi seven and drinking street.

Cooks wearing masks - do you perfer those restaurants?
lovedog100 replied to SmellyFarang's topic in Restaurants and food
I have to agree here. I can't tell you how many times I've seen cooks return from the bathroom and start cooking. Sat and picked their nose, or squeezed pimples and went right back to handeling food. Not to mention having a coughing fit right over a plate or pan full of food. -
Pattaya Shipping
lovedog100 replied to pattaya shipping's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Glad you sorted that out. You had me wondering how you were going ship something to Pattaya, from Pattaya. -
I opened my SCB account on beach road. The were a bitch to work worth. They started off saying that I couldn't open an account. Then said that I had to have a work permit or a letter of residency from immigration. I showed them the form for required paperwork for a retirement visa. One of the requirements is a Thai bank account with at least 800,000 baht in it. I then explained that I couldn't get a letter of residency until I had a retirement visa, and couldn't get the visa until I had a bank account. The branch manager came over and acted like she was going to bend rules to do me a favor and allow me to open an account. I went with SCB because their ATM's work when the others don't. After hearing how easy others have had it in other banks, I wouldn't recommend anyone going there. Maybe it was a one branch thing, I don't know. If I had it to do over, I'd go with K bank. Everyone I know using K bank are happy with them.

Soi 6 is not close to the action, other than soi 6 action. Under 1000 baht, I would pick the Dream hotel just south of Pattaya Thai on 2nd road. Phone # 038-420771 If you are not a newbie, and they are not full, the guest houses on soi LK are good. They can be hard to get to, for a newbie, and usually full this time of year. The Swasdee chain has several places under 1000, they are decent, and the swasdee sea view was my first Pattaya hotel. It was walking distance to most places that I went. I found something more to my liking a few days later. Check out Trip adviser.com or http://www.pattayacity.com/hotels/

I like $100 TC's, not sure what is available in the UK. There are exchanges at the airport in BKK, cash one TC there and you will have enough for taxi, food and such for the day. Cash two if you want to have money to go out on later in the evening. Personally, I prefer reception safes, depending on how their system works. Most of the in room safes are not safe, and easily opened. The better hotels have good in room safes, but most guest house, and low to midrange hotels all use a cheap electronic safe that is easy to open. There are even instructions on how to open them on youtube. Not that anyone needs to post them. One last thing. I would recommend newbies to go right to Pattaya, and save BKK until the last three days of your trip. BKK is big, intimidating, can cause culture shock, and full of scammers. Time in Pattaya will get you ready for BKK. You will feel more comfortable, and have some experience under your belt before going to BKK.

I haven't checked out Joe's reputation lately. However when we first got the option to rate, I did watch how others reacted to him. I find that sometimes he gives great advice, other times seems to ramble, as well as posts windups just to get a reaction. it seemed that others gave him plus and minuses just about the same way that I did, though I tend to give many more plus than minus. I did notice that Joe went way into the negative in a very short time. Looking at his posts that were active at the time, I didn't even see that many votes, much less that many minus votes. I think that MM came to the same conclusion that I did, and put a limit on the number of minuses that can be given in a day. It was obvious to me that someone with a hard on for Joe, had gone back to old post and rated them. That's not really fair. There are times when an old post resurfaces, and someone adds to a 2 or 3 year old topic, if you don't watch for dates, you could think it's a new post and rate some of the replies, or the OP. I guess that's fair. But going back and rating just to make someone look good or bad because of your personal relationship with someone, isn't. I will say that it pissed me off that there was a limit to the negatives I could give in a day, when chatkeow posted his story, and Cheshire Tom was posting more backbiting crap per day than I had negatives for.

Appropriate dress for Pattaya
lovedog100 replied to teelack's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I have to agree wit Joe here. In Pattaya you can get away with shorts and sandals However, Thai's are very class conscious. I know some will say, "who cares what a whore thinks" But every one you come in contact with, isn't a whore. Those that are, would still rather be seen with you, if you are wearing a shirt with a collar, long pants, and shoes. It puts you above a farm worker, lets face it, they left the farm to get away from that. As much as you like arm candy, the ladies like it too. I can't tell you how many times I've been with women and seen a man that was shirtless, or wearing flip flops, and the lady saying that she was glad that I never dress that way. Many times I seen posters ask how to meet a "nice girl" well, dressing like you aren't a farm worker, or flat broke is a good start. -
I can't tell you where to go, but I can tell you where NOT to go. Cayman National Bank.
