  1. I hope that the bar takes off. I have tried to get into this complex but the one time I tried I found myself in the middle of a fight and lost interest.
  2. Geez Shilo! Thanks for that table. It is an eye opener. As a matter of interest last night I checked on my February flight with Thai Air to see if it had gone down. Shock and horror! It had increased by 50% since I booked last month!
  3. Thanks as usual for the update of the goings on in Sin City and a Christmas and New Year wish that you keep on going.
  4. Thanks MM. I have to wonder where the OP got the opinion that the Holiday Innand the Grand were on the same level. I did book in purely for location but never ever ever again!
  5. Last time stayed in the Grand was indeed the last time! It was a dive. Horrible but may have got better. Has anyone here actually stayed there?
  6. Thanks for that. I have to agree with you that currently that is the situation however as a matter of interest the ANZ rates a few minutes ago for me to buy were 24.899 cash and 25.07 TT which means I would still be better off stuffing it down my undies!!
  7. Here I am sitting here having a laugh. Racism! Shit, go and look on this forum, and read posts made by a board member where almost everyone is lambasted. Just look for a topic with RANT in the title! As has already been stated, walk away from the issue as there definitely many more similar places in Pattaya.
  8. A couple of years ago I decided to use my trading bank to send funds to an account that I have at the Kasikorn bank in Thailand. In essence there we three fees! These were (1) the fact that the TT exchange rate is lower that the standard cash for cash rare. (2) There was the base fee to be paid to the bank. (3) The Kasikorn branch hit me somewhere like 500 baht for handling the transfer. The only suggestion that I can make is that you take the easy way out and transfer the money and deduct all fees from the amount that you were going to hand over.
  9. Blame Big Dusa and the closure of Sky Topps. This was food central for said gentleman and we haven't had a recommendation for years now!

    The Haka

As a New Zealander I can tell you that I and many that I talk with are just about haka'ed out! It is trotted out all the time here and has IMHO lost its currency in NZ and I see it as a tourist attraction on par with Hobbiton and Middle Earth. These guys are not warriors, simply highly paid performers and this is all part of the window dressing. In other words, take this seriously at your own risk.
  11. You may well be right however when I first came to Thailand I observed all the rules until I knew otherwise. Perhaps the most flouted in Pattaya are the body things. I have on many occasions had the current lady give me a pedicure and as for touching the head, well this is never an issue. I would however expect that if I were to visit Issan for instance that I should brush up on my attitudes and try to recall what is and isnt acceptable.
  12. I am sure that there will be the odd yawn or snigger at this but I think that it is a timely reminder for some. Thanks for taking the time
  13. Simply a great time to be in Pattaya. I was lucky to meet up with a mate and we had two ladies to take out and do the whole Kraythong thing followed by dinner in town. The colour and fun was great but the lasting memory is of the graceful way that the girls wore their outfits and how well they brushed up for the occassion. Incidentally most of the girls at the Cherry Bar dtressed up that year and as that was my local, this only added to the pleasure.
  14. Can I suggest that as you are a WW 2 fan that if you life novels based on fact get hold of Philip Kerr. This writer is exceptional and is a great mixture of fact and hard boiled detective all based around happenings in Germany from the early thirties until approx 1950. The hero is Bernie Gunther, a Berlin senior detective but he ends up in the war, investigating the Katyn massacre and all sorts of other adventures. He even ends up i Dachau at one stage! Some of his books were available at Canterbury Tales a few weeks ago.
  15. Gabor. I know bugger all about computers but I have noted that different browsers and OS get different results. I had to install Chrome in the end so that I could use the boards functions. Perhaps it could be worth your trying something different.
  16. Yes but I wish that I had thought it first!
  17. Well well, another month and another Pattaya experience. I was surprised that the Indian gent was called Mr Getupan Singh. I was sure that he was called Mahatma Coat, but there you go. You are to be congratulated for not suggesting that Pistorius didn't have a leg to stand on and that being guilty and obnoxious was all that was required for aquital. To quote the paint advert "Keep on keeping on". Thanks.
  18. My God Atlas you are getting philosophical in your old age but I have not heard that one but have decided to claim it. Thanks.
  19. To Dr Pat and Losgrad. Thanks for reminding us of two things. 1. What a great place Pattaya still is 2. That there are no pockets in shrouds.
  20. I would like to like this place but I just cannot. In the recent month I was in Pattaya I didnt go into the place once. It really seems to me to be so inconsistant. Sometime you have draft and sometimes you dont. Sometimes I find that the music sets off vibrations through the place that has an unsettling feeling. I really dont have anything actually against the club, the location, the girls or the management but it simply is not for me and I end up at the Gentlemens Club or Windmill rather than bother.I did poke my nose in once only to find four girls on stage and no punters. In no way ha
  21. Interesting observations. Whilst I am not a fan of the Booze Lounge in Soi Buakhao I do really enjoy sitting there watching the street theatre. I am also a keen observer of scooter driving ladies in short skirts and also those riding side saddle. I would go as far to say that the same applies to the Billabong in LK where the comings and goings of the dancers is a never ending source of enjoyment between 6pm and 7pm. Get there at 2.15am and if you see someone you like or know simply yell out "Fancy a drink".
  22. Good one. A prize for naming the kosher restaurant next to the night club! Perhaps Brisslam?
  23. I used to use agencies such as Sawadee and Expedia but have not done so for years. I agree that if you are new to the place then its possibly a good move but if you come a few times then you will find the areas that you want to stay in and the type of accommodation that best suits you. There is often a saving as I note that the listed prices on the accommodation site is often plus 17.5%. I try to pay afterwards by putting it on the credit card or when booking an apartment after I have had a look at the place. There is one other time that I might use an agency and that is if you are travel
  24. Thanks for the report. This place was on my bucket list and you have managed to move it higher up the order.
  25. Thanks for the info. The prices are very reasonable. I look forward to coming there one night and making everyone happy by NOT singing.
