Hello again forum friends. :yikes:

It's about time we discussed how different nationalities act whilst visiting the kingdom and it has to be said that 'generally speaking', Americans are far better for Thai tourism than the shower of shit that is Europe.

Now I'm an English cunt with a wee bit of Scottish blood coursing through my veins, I used to feel staunchly patriotic but often realised that my own fellow English men act like complete twats once they had a few beers. It's totally embarrassing, I'd often feel offended when Americans pointed out where there's English, there's trouble, but in truth they are right most of the time.

Londoners seem to be the most arrogant of all, many Thai women have asked me why I don't say the 'fuck' word every five seconds and why I don't act like a bad man, I'd asked them where in England the guys acting like this were from, 'London' was always a common answer, sorry cockneys but I'm not lying here. So how the hell can I be so nice and respectful to the Thai people when my fellow countymen act like such wankers abroad? Maybe I was raised in Texas and shipped here at a later date? :thumbup

You really do not see many incidents of violence involving the Americans, the last one I heard of was the death of that Marine at the hands of an English kickboxer bloke, I'm willing to bet the English guy started the conflict back in that bar, what he did later to that Marine was disgraceful. Americans can be quite vocal while partying but in a friendly way, you don't see them instigating conflict, testament to this is how utterly well behaved those guys on Cobra Gold exercises are, I've no doubt my own armed forces would probably tear Pattaya town in two on the first night. :clap1

Just how hard is it to be a positive person in this life, with a pleasant attitude and be respectful to others? This is what I notice about American people in general, you have to look very hard to find the cynical and sarcastic, negative mindset I find here in England, Americans really don't like to talk down about people either, what they call 'ball busting', we call 'piss taking' and Americans seem to frown upon this. Kudos to them for that. I realise I'm a cynical cunt at times, I'm sure some of you here may have noticed, :clueless but am I a product of my surroundings? That's quite possible.

In my other fantastic and awesome thread I talked about how I would want to cater to the Americans should I ever run a business in Thailand, I wasn't joking about that.

Here's why.

1) Americans are well behaved while in Thailand 'generally speaking and certainly more so than other nationalities'.

2) Americans know how to party in style, moaning about price every 5 secs certainly isn't on the agenda.

3) They treat the girls with respect, many Thai ladies have told me Americans are less likely to bullshit them regards..sponsorship, marriage, they come good for them more often than lying sleazeball Europeans who only care about their own sexual needs, hardly ever about the 'rag doll' they spunked into the night before. If I owned a bar, I would want 'my girls' to be treated with the kind of respect that seems to come as standard from American men, French and Italian are probably high in the slimeball stakes, always cheating and lying, my fellow English men bullshit them a lot too, according to many conversations I've had anyway.

4) Americans are a positive bunch, must be their schooling that teaches that, the world is about to end here in England, sunshine in the states, doom and gloom over here, I reckon if I was surrounded by such positive people then it;s bound to rub off. Nuff said.

So that's it, Americans are good for Thailand, the rest of us are not it would seem.

Anyone agree or disagree? :chogdee

A very racist post, there's good & bad in any country, no use pigeon holing people because they come from a certain country, I'm a Scotsman living in Australia and the Brits call the Aussies arrogant. different perspectives. I just enjoy myself when I'm overseas on holiday and certainly do not look for trouble. I haven't seen a lot of trouble in my trips to Pattaya but I've read about a lot. One incident did come to mind though in Soi7 I was having a few beers and could easily have got in 2 or 3 fights with Englishmen had I not been able to calm the situation. I have some American friends and they are big spenders in the bars, maybe that's why the Americans are so popular :chogdee

We tend to only notice the loud, the arrogant, the culturally insensitive, etc. That's how we come up with silly generalizations.

When I first started in the hospitality industry in S. Florida, I dealt mainly with AirTrours. Imagine my dismay. :yikes:

Then I met the Germans....

Then I started travelling myself and realized that some people just become assholes when they go on holiday. Even more so when you put them in large groups.

Hi.as an Australian i believe i can make an unbiased contribution based on my observations.

The OP here is pretty damned well honest IMO and has a good insight.

I think it comes down to education,i think you'll find most Americans abroad have been to college/university so they're very disciplined and

have good manners.

as for the English, and this could apply to some Australians as well, higher education isnt/wasnt very high on the agenda with they're parents from

what i can tell.

just my opinion.

but ive met some very friendly brits ova the years...i think every country has its good and bad....i know if it was more Australians ova in Pattaya than is

they'd stick out more and i'd probably be sick of em.

Well as someone who lives very close to the US and see Americans on a regular bases I would have to say the OP is pretty close. Yes as some others have said you will find all kinds from a country but over all I think most Americans or at least the ones I have met seem to be very friendly, open and honest people. The ones I have met during holidays in LOS and elsewhere seem to just want to have a good time and relax.

Have to say as a Canadian it is nice to have a neighbour to the south with such a similar culture and rules. Like all neighbours we may not always agree but continue to work together.

Unfortunately I've found that, when trouble is started in a bar, chances are it's started by a Brit. Americans seem remarkably well behaved, probably because many who come to Pattaya are military and they are told quite severely not to cause trouble.

That said, age is a far more reliable metric. When you have young men, especially young men in groups, you have a volatile cocktail of alcohol, and testosterone and Axe body spray.

Just my opinion, free of charge and worth every penny.

when i was in pattaya i found the ones in groups that get very loud and aggressive are young english lads but i don't recall seeing any groups of young americans. On a positive note i didn't see one physical confrontation the whole trip. But I'm sure any group of young guys that are drunk will act like assholes doesn't matter if there english, american, canadian or african it's what young people do.

Americans are generally more inclined to behave than their European counter part. Brits and Australians tend to appear more cynical because pissing on each others' parade is something they take pride doing--it's a cultural thing to them, that's how they interact, nothing personal. Americans on the other hand are more of a straight shooter and to the lesser extend don't go for chopping each others' head while taking a jab at each other--they don't consider this format a preferring method of interacting among each other. Again, everything I say is relative, for instance, in the eyes of an Indian nationality, we, Americans, become the bone fide jerks.

Some people are naturally inclined to be more reserved, others don't mind taking a few friendly jokes. Of course, if you are in the latter group, it becomes waxing and your feelings are hurt so you are gravitated towards a more quieter folks, perhaps Americans comparatively to Europeans and Australians.

First - I agree that every country has their share of assholes and people who will just stir up trouble (particularly when drinking). And you regularly hear that Thailand tends to get a good portion of the low-lifes of the world. I think that these people in America for the most part stay in the US, while other portions of the world -Brits/European, and recently Indian/Arabian, see Thaland as a real alternative to living in their home countries. I think a greater portion of the Americans that fall into this class (we call them hicks, trailer trash etc..) just stay here in the US.

So when you go to Thailand, the Americans you see are the more worldy travelers/expats, along with the military. All of these folks are for the most part very well behaved. The really bad Americans are still staying home.

There are exceptions of course.

I don't think a lot of them are military, except when a ship comes in. I think most Americans in Pattaya are Thailand residents -- but as a percentage, probably lots of tourists.

Whoever first said "in groups" had it nailed, I think. These days the worst are packs of young Brits, but they're just in the tradition (in Pattaya) of packs of young Germans/Austrians/Swiss and packs of Saudis. For example. In my opinion Germans are the worst tourists but that's me.

Its a generalisation but I reckon there is quite a lot of truth in your post. Perhaps tho it has something to do with the ages of the visitors, more young british tourists than young americans. When the young brits got discouraged from going to Spain they had to find somewhere else cheap to cause problems.

it takes 24 hours in the air to get to thailand from usa, so mostly older usa and in small numbers come to thailand.. i don't believe the really bad ass americans with alot of man juice are coming to thailand, they go to mostly latin america.

us older gents come in groups of 1 or 3 and need to supplement our power with pills so we are just happy to be away from the land of hippos and to know that if we take a woman out to dinner, she won't cost more to feed than we spend on ourselves...

There are so many places in america that rougher bawdy types can go to and they would never think to fly for 24 hours just to have a good time.. :angel
