Rains came into Pattaya in a big way this afternoon, flooding eastern Pattaya streets and hopefully adding to the reservoirs.

BBQ day plans scuttled though, but that can wait.

Thanks for the pics. Friends had reported flooding which made me curious. I'm sure Beach Rd. was a disaster as usual. So now the local government Mafia will spend more money "fixing " the flooding problem......again. And around it goes. It's worse now than when I first came to Pattaya in '93.

You pave more roads and put up more buildings, there is less open ground to absorb the water. Also, many of the structures channel the water. So, yes, the flooding may be worse.

I omitted mentioning that the pictures were from Facebook..since I found so many aren't using it, I thought it would be informative to post some content from there.

I'd hate for anyone's privacy to be invaded just to look at local rain pictures, especially since this site is so secure from government and commercial intrusion.

Good job.... I shared those pix on my official FB made by an other person... ( maybe you had an other source ) I call it the information motorway...

For those of you, who afraid the FB... I can quote Daniel Sylva's novel:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_Rules_(novel)

The title is based on the Cold War rules in which CIA agents were trained when operating against the Soviet Union, known as the "Moscow Rules" — for example, "Don't look back, you are never alone".

The best tool if you want to mislead someone... otherways an innocent web fun...Of course if you don't call a cunt your boss in public...

I was going to ask how you whizzed back down from Laos and got out and about so quickly.

I have a rose apple tree and was getting concerned as the lack of rain meant young fruit was dropping off and I figured another year of hardly any..... but the rain fixed that, the weight of water and fruits broke off the best branches yesterday!

I recall getting caught in a massage place in Soi Buakhao a couple of years ago. Poor me! The point is that the waters rose very quickly and left with the same rate of knots. I never see rain as being an issue in Pattaya and it has never stopped me going out. Having said that I did a bit of a Walter Raleigh some years ago and carried a lady across a rain filled street and fell into a hole dropping her and ripping my trousers. I still know the girl and only wear shorts now!

I would need a boat to go Walking Street now

and my GGG friend cancelled her visit at 6pm because of the rain.

I am good for a TV movie night alone ;)

Here in S Calif we also had heavy rains. From 2 AM until 6 ish it rained almost 4 inches here along the coast flooding our streets causing many closures. Has never happened before in my memory. Downtown LA had 2.8". A record for September and more rain that we have had the entire year. We are in the middle of a serious drought.

They are naming the coming El Nino, Godzilla!

There was a tremendous storm 4 years and 6 days ago...starting on 9/11 and continuing into the 12th.

http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/56292-myras-birthday-and-then-the-deluge/?hl=rain

This one the past day has lasted longer and been more steady with periods of torrential downpours, so it might qualify as the worst.

The metric will be how many bars on the sea side of Walking Street get flooded inside. In the 2011 storm, at least a half dozen gogos and indoor bars (including FLB) were flooded.

The east side of Thappraya below Thepprasit was running curb full with water spouts coming out of the storm drains. I managed to cross the road to go eat, but I could imagine someone with a bit less ballast getting knocked over.

Guys could drown in such deluges.

Boy did I get lucky, I was going to ride to Jomtiem on my bike to meet a pal as we were off someplace. As it looked likely to rain I asked to be picked up. I would still be in Jomtiem now!

Some more pics of the results here

I haven't been out since a trip to Passion yesterday lunchtime for their nicely timed Hawaii Bikini Party......... But I shall wander along Jomtien Beach to see what's left of it later.

This video appeared in the Bangkok Post Facebook page today.

It is raging water on Soi Khao Noi (darkside)....

I saw another video where there were actually people caught in this water and being washed down the road...

How fast do you think this water was moving?

Faster than BigD heading for the door.....when it's his round!

Well just back from my walk along Jomtien Beach.

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words but didn't take my phone and not spending 1000 words on this so......

Best description I can give is to recall the words of the great Desi Arness when returning to his house, arms on hips as he takes in the devastation..... Lucy is in hiding somewhere....... and he calls out, 'LUCY..... YOU GOT SOME "SPLAINING TO DO!!"

Lots of Thais hands on hips.......Scratching of heads......and not knowing where to start.

The good news is that Rumpol market by Kiss restaurant was easily being negotiated by traffic.....Maybe only half an inch of water there where there would have been over a foot.

The bad news is that until the beach workers can fill the drains with rubble the water from the market has run along and below soi 5 taking out a new beach pathway.....and some trees. The pathway was completed about a month ago and didn't survive it's first rainy season down pour.

To be fair.......That was some rain though.

This video is probably the scariest I've seen...I think this is also Soi Khao Noi on the darkside...note the people being swept down the road in the rapid raging waters.
