Beer in Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

Hi just a newbie on here introducing myself by asking a question!

I'm supposed to be over in Thailand for three weeks at the start of next year for my first ever visit and will be spending a large chunk of that time in Pattaya. Are there any bars that sell beer rather than lager? I can drink lager up to a point but after five or so days it gets like I'm drinking battery acid and would like to know if there will be an alternative.

Welcome to the board.....

Yes there are quite a few that sell UK beers and Guinness , a couple that spring to mind are The Sportsman pub on soi 13 between 2nd and beach rd

The Irish rovers on soi LK Metro , you can also get decent UK food in these paces as well .

There are plenty more UK style pubs in Pattaya and i am sure you will find them when you are over here , oh there is another famous pub that most boardies have seen / been in or red about , it's called The Drunken Duck ........ :whistling:

Have fun exploring......!

Speckled Hen at Robin's nest.

A large array of ciders at the Triangle Bar

As an aside, I was wondering recently whatever happened to Pattaya Lager.

I remember buying a couple of cans a few years ago, and it was even hawked at the Expats Club..... seems to have died a death.

70 baht on Walking Street, in front of Casanovy. Any good?

I guess Im going to have to brush up on my alcoholic drinks. I thought lager was just a type of beer. Maybe not? Anyway, I guess I don't think about it too much. Right now I'm drinking a Heineken. What's that?

Not the worst beer/lager I ever had, but it would be an acquired taste.

My candidate for worst beer? Orion in Okinawa.

Well it doesn't seem to have penetrated the market yet.

Conflicting sampling results. I bought a couple from a distributor very early in its day.. tasted awful.

Then a later sample at the Expats club tasted okay.

For me it is about the impact on my head too!

Welcome to the Board.

As Jacko has said we do a huge ranger of Ciders (19 choices last count) but we also have London Pride Ale, Beer Lao light and dark and have just installed SA Smooth cream Flow and Brains Black Stout on Draught. Hope that helps.

Look forward to seeing you in the new year make sure you pop in and say hi. Board members always welcome.

If you want to sample some Thai lager before you make your "newbie" trip you can buy Singha and Chang in the UK.

I used to be a "real ale" drinker until I made my first trip to Thailand... I've hardly touched the stuff since getting a taste for Thai beer.

Hi,

Lager is a type of beer. I think the OP wants what we call an ale or something like Guiness which is much darker. Jacko mentioned Speckled Hen which is an excellent ale. There seems to be plenty of micro breweries producing ales as well as lagers around now, including in the US. Many of us want a change from the mass produced stuff, I suppose.

I arrived in Pattaya last night and managed to get totally smashed. I drank draft ale almost all night and surprise but the best was at the Paradise gogo in Soi LK. As far as can recall the only poor draft was at the Lighthouse in Walking Street. .

To avoid any confusion:

Beer brewed at low temperatures is called a lager

Ale is brewed at a higher temperature. The yeast used and the higher temperature give the beer a sweet, full bodied and fruity taste.

I am also guessing the OP is looking for the fuller bodied Ales.

http://www.phuketbeer.com/Welcome.html

I saw a guy here in the states wearing a hat with the Phuket Beer logo. It was several years ago, I talked to him for a bit, I think they were trying to market it strictly for export to the US.

He was Thai and he pronounced it "fuckit"

The website seems a bit cheapo for a legit beer company with funds to market and export.

Anyway, I forgot all about it until I saw the Pattaya Beer photo.

Heineken is a pale lager.

And here too....

hof pattaya.jpg

though only German/Swiss style beer (forgot to go there this trip - too much of the "other"). It's Beach Road end of Soi 13/1 - it's called HOF.
